Hi! I just want to share my experience in my first inter-school competition, Spelling bee. This competition was held November last year. It was held in SM Cdeo. 50 schools. Public and Private.
When my teacher called me that I was chose to represent our school (Montessori de Oro) with 2 other teammates in this competition, I was nervous and happy. When I got home, I immediately told my parents about the competition. So, everyday I go back to school in the afternoon to have my training with my 2 other teammates. At first day of training, I was so shy. Because both of them were boys. But on my second day, I wasn't shy anymore :)) The competition was on a Sunday. The day before the competition, I went to school to have last training with my teammates. I need to memorize papers with 30+ pages full of spelling words. And I am so proud of myself that I memorized it within just 2 weeks. Hahaha! :) When it was already the day of the competition, my Mom gave me a Lucky Charm. So when we I went to SM with my parents and my older sister. I was ALITTLE BIT nervous. Walking going to the rotunda while holding my papers. I was dressed in my school uniform. I was really praying that we can pass going to the 'Top 4'. So when the competition started, all of the schools including us will compete. When the host announced the top 4 schools, we were placed in top 2! The top one was Xavier Elementary School. There are 4 rounds. So when we were called to go backstage, I saw 9 other students which we are going to compete with. Some of them were crying and hugging their trainors. Us, we just hugged our teachers and said goodluck to each other. I was looking around the crowd while praying. Hoping that the 3 of us will get the first place or be the champion. We went up to the stage. And the judges are picking the first school that will spell. And we were the first one. And unluckily, I was picked. At first I was wrong and the feeling of having a word misspelled around thousands of people was so embarassing. It feels like after the competition they will mock you. Then, my 2 other teammates were called to spell. My other teammates also didn't get the right answer. After us, the 3 other schools spelled. And Xavier got the right spelling! Gosh, I was nervous that they would win. Now on to the 2nd round! One of the 3 schools were called. (I don't remember what school was it!). We were called last. Both of my teammates got wrong. And I was the last one to spell. I spelled the word 'Pegnoir' pronounced as 'penwar'. Then then then! I spelled it correctly! I was so happy. I just walked back to my seat calmy. But inside my head, I am screaming! Hahaha! :) now to the 3rd round! Xavier got a correct spelling again. The 2 other schools still didn't have any point. We were the last again. My teammate Louis was called first. Then Me. We both got wrong. Then last was my teammate/cousin Miguel. He got the correct spelling of 'Euthanasia'. So our school and Xavier will be the only one competing. TIE BREAKER! In this part, the judges will pick which school and student will spell. Xavier was first to spell. I was so nervous. It was like I was going to explode! Hahaha! They got the wrong spelling. The judges picked again in our school which student will fight. And I heard my name! I WAS SUPER DUPER NERVOUS! So I spelled and I got wrong. Xavier's turn again. Still the same student. While the student is spelling the word, I was looking in a projector showing each student's family name and scores. And I can see 2-2. Which represents our score and Xavier's score. So a student from Xavier was already done and that student got the wrong spelling. Now, it is my turn. While the 'Spelling master' is looking at me I got nervous. And if I get this next spelling word correct, we will be the champion. The spelling word was 'Triptych'. And by God's grace, I GOT IT RIGHT! :D I am super happy! We are the Champions! HAHAHA. I think the Lucky Charm and God really helped me alot. I was proud of myself! And parents were also proud of myself! And I remembered what my older sister did when she was still in Grade 6 (my ate is turning 2nd year highscool). She was the champion in CAPES in the whole city. We recieved large medals (above), P7000 cash, and a super big trophy. After the competition I went to my parents and I immediately hugged them and they congratulated me! :) The next day was school day. And the other teachers and students congratulated me and my teammates. So now, I am looking foreward to contests this coming school year. So what I learned is to always obey and pray to God because He is the only one you can tell your problem and ask for help. And also strive hard in your studies.
That's all! Longpost. Sorry. :) Always smile, xx N Ross
